President’s Message

President’s message

I can’t believe 2025 is just around the corner! This year has flown by. We’ve had our highs, including our highest number of members since 1989, currently at 134. We have also had our lows, most significantly when the president of our League, Cynthia Petterson, passed away suddenly on August 20. Cynthia’s leadership is missed.

I look forward to 2025 and what we can collectively accomplish as the League of Women Voters of Lincoln-Lancaster County. We have a talented board, each having specific skills and duties, but they also share, along with all our members, in the success of the League’s operation and its impact in our community.

In 2025, I would like to see the League expand the practice of accomplishing our work through committees led by board and other members. We currently have a large committee of members for Voter Registration (but they can always use more). We also have committees for Lunch & Learn and Events & Hospitality but they would welcome more volunteers too.

Every year, we have a Nominating committee focused on recruiting new board members, a Budget Committee to develop the budget for the next year, a Bylaws committee to review and propose updates to our Bylaws.

There are areas of our work that need committees if we truly want to make a broader impact in 2025.  These include:

  • New Member Orientation and Onboarding
  • Voter Education (candidate forums, Ballot Initiative education, and Vote411, our online Voter Guide). We have Spring elections coming up in April and May of 2025 for Lincoln and we need people to help with all three areas of Voter Education.

Please let me know if you are willing to help us get these committees off the ground.

I look forward to working with all of you in 2025!
