LWVLL President’s Message-January 2025

January 2025

This year has flown by. We’ve had our highs, including our highest number of members since 1989, currently at 134. We have also had our lows, most significantly when the president of our League, Cynthia Petterson, passed away suddenly on August 20. Cynthia’s leadership is missed.

I look forward to 2025 and what we can collectively accomplish as the League of Women Voters of Lincoln-Lancaster County. We have a talented board, each having specific skills and duties, but they also share, along with all our members, in the success of the League’s operation and its impact in our community.

In 2025, I would like to see the League expand the practice of accomplishing our work through committees led by board and other members. We currently have a large committee of members for Voter Registration, and committees for Lunch & Learn and Events & Hospitality. Consider helping with a committee.

Every year, members prepare for our annual meeting: a Nominating committee recruit new board members, a Budget Committee to develop the budget for the next year, a Bylaws committee to review and propose updates to our Bylaws.

We’re also recruiting for new committees.  These include:

  • New Member Orientation and Onboarding
  • Voter Education (candidate forums, Ballot Initiative education, and Vote411, our online Voter Guide). Help with these activities during the spring elections.

Please contact me if you are interested in volunteering.

I look forward to working with all of you in 2025!
